FAQs

Here are a few questions that we frequently get asked!

Bird Portrait

Wing clipping. Yes or no?

Wing clipping can be controversial. Look at these things: what type of bird you have, your personal circumstances, housing requirements, maintenance and safety. We never force anyone to clip wings if they do not wish to.

What do you feed the boarding birds?

We feed our boarding birds a nice variety such as Premium seed (budgie, small parrot or large parrot), Vetafarm Pellets (maintenance, nutriblend or b-calm), and a weekly fresh chop mix consisting of lots of veggies and some fruit. For lorikeets we can supply their wet/dry mix as well. We don't often feed treats but do on occasion such as nuts or millet.

How often do I need to get my birds nails trimmed?

This can depend on what type of bird you have, your personal sensitivity and any medical reasons. On average we trim/file most types of birds every 2 months

What do you feed the boarding guinea pigs?

We feed our boarding piggies a range of goodies, from either Vetafarm cavy origins or oxbow essentials, barley/grassy or seasonal hay, as well as fresh veggies chopped weekly. We change up our veggies to give variety but some of our staples are carrot, celery, cucumber, capsicum, cos lettuce & tomato.

Feeding Guinea Pig

How often should I have my guinea pig groomed?

We recommend every 3 months on average to have your piggies nails done, bath & parasite treatment. For piggies with long fur, shaving may be required more frequently.

How do you keep the boarding animals cool in summer?

Our boarding animals are kept in our garage, but don't worry! we have a fan and aircon to keep them cool. We also put some tiles or ice bottles in piggie or rat cages and we provide the birds with bigger water dishes so they can splash or give them a spray down.
